For your final essay in this course, based on Chapters 15 and 16 of the text, you will write an essay
based on the scenario below. Please read ALL information provided.
You are in your first year as a Psychologist and you must report to the head Psychologist at the
end of each week. This week you have seen three new patients; Morris, Jack, and Tom. Read
each case study below and write an essay to your supervisor describing your diagnosis and
treatment plan for each patient.
For EACH patient, you must include
What is your diagnosis? Describe this diagnosis, according to the text. Why did you choose
this diagnosis? (Make sure to reference the textbook). *See Chapter 15
What is your treatment plan? Describe this treatment(s), according to the text. Why did you
choose this treatment plan? (Make sure to reference the textbook). *See Chapter 16
Please write your essay as if you are writing to your supervisor and explaining the diagnosis and
treatment plan of each of these patients. For each choice you have made, you must defend yourself by
referencing the case and the text. Your essay should include

Case 1 – Morris
Morris has been referred to you for psychotherapy following a suicide attempt. When you interview him
he is very teary. He speaks slowly and looks down at the ground as he speaks. He reports difficulty in
falling asleep and staying asleep for the past month. Morris states that he hasn’t had much of an
appetite and has lost 15 pounds. He reports that things he used to like just don’t seem enjoyable
anymore, and he thinks that life is not worth living. Morris doesn’t expect things to improve in the future,
which is why he tried to kill himself.
Case 2 – Jack
Jack graduated from high school and got a job working in a video store. After working for about 6
months Jack began to hear voices that told him he was no good. He also began to believe that his boss
was planting small video cameras in the returned tapes to catch him making mistakes. Jack became
increasingly agitated at work, particularly during busy times, and began “talking strangely” to customers.
For example, one customer asked for a tape to be reserved and Jack indicated that that tape may not be
available because it had “surveillance photos of him that were being reviewed by the CIA”. After about a
his job one night, yelling at his boss that he couldn’t take the constant abuse of being
watched by all the TV screens in the store and even in his own home.
Case 3 – Tom
Tom, an 11-year old boy institutes the following ceremonial before going to bed. He did not sleep until he
had told his mother every last detail of the events that occurred that day; there must be no scraps of
paper or other rubbish on the carpet of the bedroom; the bed must be pushed right to the wall; three
chairs must stand by it and the pillows must lie in a particular way. In order to get to sleep, he must first
kick out a certain number of times with both legs and then lie on his side.
