Global Issues Team Presentation

UF200 Assignment Sheet

Part 1: Global Issues Team Presentation

Part 2: Global Issues Team Peer Evaluation

(100 points)

The Overall Assignment:

As you know, the theme of this class is “Justice and Liberty for All.”  And that is basically the gist and the purpose of the team project. As we know all too well, the number of “global issues” surrounding us today is huge. In this project, as a team you are to:

  • As a team, you will identify an issue that has a “personal, communal and global impact” and present your findings to the class
  • Conduct research to explore the facets of the problem (academic research)
  • Address how it is an ETHICAL issue and definitions of why it is an ethical issue
  • Apply an ETHICAL standard towards your proposed solution (We have talked about this in your book and supplemental materials discussed in Bb).
  • Address WHY this is the best ethical standard to apply to your solution.
  • Express how leadership can and should play a part in your proposed solution. Include in your findings content from within our text and Bb materials. Be specific.

Presentation of the Project (logistics/details/technology): Using the outline you worked on as a group, your group will create a 20-minute presentation on the global issue topic you have chosen.  Choose your information wisely – your video presentation cannot be longer than 20 minutes total and each team member must present.  You must include a reference page in your presentation. The references should be the last slide in the presentation with proper APA format to support the sources in the body of the presentation (research, photographs, statistics, quotes, internet content, etc.). The presentation will have a few different aspects, so decide soon which part(s) each of you will be responsible for. Here are the parts:

  1. An overall organizer and editor of the presentation. He or she will be responsible for making sure that the final presentation has a consistent style, and that other basic requirements are met such as sources cited and a slide of references used in the presentation. Please follow the APA format for the reference slide when citing your work: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/

Each student in the group will present a part of the project. What your presentation looks like will be up to your group, but should include an introduction, a conclusion, and the points found in your thesis that your group has decided to expand upon. I want you to be the story. I am really more interested in seeing HOW you present the information and how you are going to make it memorable.

  1. You will upload this presentation to your ePortfolio to show how you worked as a team and your knowledge on the topic. Make sure you provide a justification to the project in your ePortfolio. Several students have used audio to explain their work and part in the project.

You are to use 21st Century Skills you have developed over the course of the semester to include video, audio, etc., in your presentation. You also have several options and tools we have explored and used to create /record parts of the presentation to include voice, webcam, graphics, etc., to present your information in an imaginative way.

Your final presentation (YouTube link, Prezi link, powerpoint, or other format you have chosen to create your presentation) is to be uploaded to Blackboard – no later than the Saturday before the last week of class. Late presentations will not be accepted – no exceptions.  An assignment link is provided in your Groups. Only one person will need to submit the presentation for the whole team. Please follow the Global Issues Presentation Rubric attached here or it can be found in the course resources in Bb. I will be using it for grading.

Helpful Hints to be successful:

  • Use the skills you learned when working together in the modules to problem solve
  • Distribute the work load fairly to come up with a great final product. Pull from each other’s strengths. (If one of the group members is not doing his or her fair share, please talk with them first as a group and see how you can help that member).
  • Be Creative – do something different. REALLY! Think outside the box!! A couple of examples of past idea’ (which can all be accomplished in the online enviroment in some format or another):
    • A presentation on farming – and they brought in and made salads during the presentation
    • Refugees – they became and played the role of the refugee and how it felt
    • Human Rights topic: the students role played several different scenarios (this can be recorded and shown to the class)
    • Students have created skits, conducted mock interviews with each other, dressed up and role-played the parts, etc. to tell their story.
    • Create videos of each member and mesh them together in the presentation
    • Use music and graphics to gain our attention
    • Create games, competitions or a way to engage the audience to make your point
  • Remember: The presentations should stand out (and I see a lot of presentations each semester).

You will also be completing a peer evaluation on each other as team members that I will take into consideration when I am grading your final product.
