Step 8: Develop the Digital Forensic Compilation Report-Out
The is responsible for compiling information and results, explaining the currency and relevancy of information gathered during an investigation, and presenting facts and conclusions in a court of law.
In this step, your team’s digital forensic investigator will collaborate to create a Compilation Report-Out of at least 20 pages on the information and data gathered through the projects and steps of this course. The Compilation Report-Out will serve as a comprehensive security and risk management tool.
In preparation for providing expert testimony in court on the information gathering and reporting, you are responsible for writing a report that summarizes the reports and lab findings from Projects 1 through 3, to create one synthesized document that encompasses security assessment and testing. Refer to the following document for the full set of deliverable requirements: Compilation Report-Out.
In this step, you synthesized the information and data from all sources in this course to create a Compilation Report-Out document. This report will be used in the next step as the foundation for your deliverable, the Expert Testimony Video.
Compilation Report-Out
The final steps for the capstone course involve tools for reporting out the findings from all steps and procedures followed throughout Projects 1, 2, and 3. The tools for this reporting-out function are a written Compilation Report and a recorded Expert Testimony, and both will be completed by the Digital Forensics and Cyber Investigation students. The DFC students will work as a team to create the Compilation Report, followed by their individual expert testimony in a moot court.
The Compilation Report-Out is a comprehensive written document that summarizes the Projects 13 steps and reports, including all reporting instruments and lab discoveries. Students in the Digital Forensics and will work as a team to compose and organize one report that explains the scenarios, activities, lab exercises, and reports from Projects 1 through 3 of this course. This comprehensive report will include the scope and depth of work done by all cybersecurity students in this course and culminate with lessons learned and recommendations for heightened cybersecurity practices and policies, as justified by the work completed in this course.

Step 9: Provide Digital Forensic Expert Testimony
In the previous step, you synthesized the information and data from all sources during the summit to create a Compilation Report-Out document. In this step, you will use that report as the foundation for the Expert Testimony Video. Review these expert testimony questions; you are required to answer each question in the testimony video.
Each digital forensic investigator will appear in a moot court setting to provide expert testimony video on the information and data collected throughout this course. Testimony will be presented to a panel of judges, to include the CISO and from the other FVEY nation teams. Testimony will evaluate national cybersecurity policy and , based on the Compilation Report-Out.
When you have completed the Expert Testimony Video, your team should submit it for feedback. To submit your video, upload it to YouTube, paste the URL in a document, and upload the document to the assignment folder by following the instructions below. Expert Testimony Questions
The final step in the digital forensic investigators casework is to provide expert testimony in a court of law. In the United States, Federal Rule of Evidence 702 provides that, in order for a witness to be qualified as an expert, the expert must simply be shown to have “knowledge, skill, experience, training, or education” regarding the subject matter involved. Under this standard, trained computer forensics experts have qualified as experts in the US courts.
Moot court involves the presentation of information and conclusions to a panel of judges. Those panels are typically comprised of attorneys, professors, and judges. In this capstone course, the panel of judges will include the instructor and peer students from other cybersecurity M.S. tracks, including Cybersecurity Technology and Cybersecurity Management and Policy. In this scenario, you will be testifying as the digital forensic expert and reporting out on the information gathered from the steps performed throughout this course.
The Compilation Report-Out will provide the foundation for your testimony. Court testimony will involve the presentation of evidence as well as the engagement in meaningful and rigorous justification central to cyber incidents and international law. Expert testimony will focus on the challenges facing the field of digital forensics from new technologies (e.g., cloud storage, mobile devices), and international law specific to eDiscovery. During your testimony, you need to be prepared to answer relevant questions, including:
What are the legal challenges associated with cyber incidents involving foreign countries? How do internal laws affect eDiscovery? Reference and discuss all international laws that may influence a forensic investigation in the country that your team is assigned.
What are the legal challenges of accessing and retrieving electronic evidence stored on foreign soil? Assuming cloud storage was used, what procedures were followed to access and retrieve digital evidence stored in the cloud?
Specific to the country that your team was assigned, how did the international laws and jurisdictions influence the processes and procedures followed during the forensic investigation?
What conflicts arose between ethics and international laws during the forensic investigations? How did these conflicts affect the investigations? How were the conflicts mitigated/resolved?
What steps were taken to protect United States soil and citizens during the international investigation? Describe any risks to the country, businesses, or citizens from your investigations
